Description of Work:

Definition: All surfacing units made of ceramic materials.

Extent of tiles as indicated on drawings and schedules.

Types of tile work include the following:

Glazed Wall Tile Unglazed Quarry Tile

Unglazed Ceramic Mosaics Special Purpose Tile

Unglazed Paver Tile Glazed Paver Tile

Quality Assurance:

A. Source of Materials: Provide materials obtained from one source for each type and color of tile, grout, and setting materials.

B. Work shall be executed and tested in accordance with current editions of the following standards:

1. ANSI Al 08.1 - Installation of ceramic tile with Portland Cement. ANSI Al 08.4- Installation of ceramic tile with water resistant organic adhesives.

ANSI Al 08.5- Installation of ceramic tile installed with dry set Portland Cement Mortar or Latex Portland Cement Mortar. ANSI A108.6 - Installation for ceramic tile installed with chemical-resistant epoxy.

2. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) ASTM C150 - Specifications for Portland Cement

ASTM C206 - Specifications for Hydrated Lime

3. Federal Specifications (FS)

FS TT-S 001543 Class A or B (COM-NBS)

Submittals:

1. Certificates of Compliance: The manufacturer shall furnish Certificates of Compliance stating conformance with all requirements of the most current copy of the American National Standards Institute Specification ANSI A137.l.

 

2. Master Grade Certificate: Furnish Master Grade Certificates for each shipment and type of tile signed by the manufacturer and the installer.

3. Samples: Submit samples of each type of tile for each color and texture required, not less than 12' square. A full size sample of each type of trim for each color is required.

Product Handling:

Deliver to job site and store packaged material in original containers with labels intact. Prevent damage to materials by water, freezing, or other causes.

Project Conditions:

Maintain temperatures at not less than 50°F in tiled areas during installation, and for 7 days after completion unless higher temperatures are required by manufacturer's instructions.

 

Part 2 - Products:

A. Glazed wall tile, Porcelain tiles and Ceramic Mosaics are Standard Grade complying with ANSI A137.1, as manufacturer by Portobello Inc. Anaheim California USA, 714.535.3311

B. Sizes, colors, textures, and patterns as selected by the architect. See drawings and schedules.

C. Provide trim of the same color, size, and finish of adjacent flat tile.

Setting Materials:

Portland Cement Mortar Installation Materials: Provide materials to comply with ANSI A108.1 as required by installation method designated. Cleavage Membranes: Polyethylene film. 4mil. ASTM C171 Type 1.1.2. Reinforcing Mesh: Welded wire fabric 2" x 2"x 2" 16/16 gauge.

Dry Set Portland Cement Mortar: ANSI 118.1 Mer-Krete 700 Premium Thin-Set mortar where unmodified thin-set mortar applications are indicated.

Latex Portland Cement: ANSI A118.4. Mer-Krete 200 Latex and 211 Filler Power for all exterior applications and vitreous materials. Mer-Krete 710 Super Flexible Thin-Set for all interior applications or as indicated on the drawings. Mer-Krete 442 Latex thin-set additive for all Mosaics or special purpose tiles

Organic Adhesive: ANSI A136.1 Type 1&2 Mer-Krete Mer-Stic 800 for areas requiring prolonged water resistance. Provide primer sealer as recommended by the manufacturer. Epoxy Mortar: ANSI 118.3 Mer-Krete Mer-Poxy 400 for areas requiring chemical resistance and food preparation and as indicated on the drawings.

Waterproofing / Crack Isolation All waterproofing and Crack Isolation membrane shall be Mer-Krete BFP Membrane, for exterior application Mer-Krete Hydro-Guard 2000 for interior installations no substitution.

Grouting Material:

Mer-Krete 150 Acrylic/Latex Grout additive mixed with selected grout material in color as selected by the architect.

Part 3-Installation:

Before tile installation begins, substrate surfaces shall not show variations in excess of:

Floor Wall

Dry Set Mortar 1/8" in 10' 1/8" in 8'

Organic Adhesive 1/16' in 3' 1/8" in 8'

Latex Portland Cement Mortar 1/8" in 10' 1/8" in 8'

Epoxy 1/8" in 3'

ANSI Installation Standard: Comply with applicable parts of ANSI A-108 Series for

ceramic tile installation.

Extend tile work into recesses, under and behind equipment and fixtures except where otherwise shown. Fit tile to electrical outlets, piping, fixtures and other penetrations so that plates, collars, or covers overlap tile.

Joints shall align vertically and horizontally between trim and field tile. Grout tile to comply with reference installation standards using grout materials indicated

Expansion Joints shall be placed in accordance to the most current TCA requirements and as indicated on the drawings.

Protection: Leave finished installation free of cracked, chipped, broken, unbounded, or otherwise defective tile work. Protect all floor tile installations with kraft paper or other heavy covering during construction period to prevent staining or damage. No foot or wheel traffic permitted on floor for 7 days after grouting.
