Mer-Krete™
Fracture-Guard 740 Thin-Set

CRACK ISOLATION MORTAR

DESCRIPTION:
Fracture-Guard 740 is a flexible, high performance polymer modified, portland cement based mortar. Fracture-Guard 740 helps guard against substrate movement and reduces the transference of cracks up to 1/8". When mixed with water, the resultant thin-set mortar meets ANSI A-118.11 and ANSI A-118.4 requirements. Fracture-Guard 740 displays excellent physical properties in adhesion, maximum flexibility and reduced water absorption.

USE:
Fracture-Guard 740 is used for the installation of all ceramic, quarry, porcelain and stone tiles (consult manufacturer for glass and epoxy backed tiles). Fracture-Guard 740 develops a strong bond to all common substrates (concrete, masonry, wood, wallboard and plaster), and is for interior and exterior use.

ADVANTAGES:
• Designed for maximum flexibility (meets ANSI A118.11)
• Meets ANSI A-118.4 standards
• Adheres to all common sound substrates
• Non-shrinking
• Non-toxic and non-flammable
• Water resistant – will not bleed
• Ideal for plywood installations

LIMITATIONS:
• Cannot be applied in freezing weather. After installation, however, this adhesive displays
excellent resistance to frost damage (freeze-thaw cycling).
• Bags should be stored off the ground and kept dry prior to application.
• Do not install over expansion joints.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR INSTALLATION:
• No sealers, curing compounds or coatings shall be used on substrate. Surfaces shall be left clean. Any contaminants shall be removed prior to application.
• For specific installation applications, refer to the current TCA manual.
• Spread only as much mortar as can be covered while the surface is still tacky. Dusty or dry concrete surfaces should be washed with clean water just prior to commencing work and left uniformly damp (no standing water).
• Patching, leveling or areas requiring a mortar bed should be prepared using Mer-Krete Underlayment Systems.

INSTALLATION:
Work should be performed only by a trained applicator familiar with these products and in strict accordance with manufacturer’s application instructions and specifications, abbreviated below:
The amount of water used will depend on the temperature and humidity. Higher temperatures and drier humidities will require slightly more water to reach optimum spreading consistency.
Approximately 13/4 gallons of water will wet out one 40 lb. sack of Thin-Set 740.
1. When heavier fills are required, the use of Underlayment Systems is highly recommended prior to the application of the overlay.
2. Expansion joints shall be spaced in accordance with the current TCA manual expansion joint recommendations.
3. Notch Trowel Requirements: Contact tile or stone manufacturer or refer to the TCA manual for specific guidelines.

AVAILABILITY:
Mer-Krete Systems are available at distribution centers throughout the U.S.
