Merkrete Tile and Stone Installation Systems and LEED®

The USGBC (United States Green Building Council) developed LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) as a voluntary, consensus-based national standard to support and validate successful green building design, construction and operation. The LEED Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings by the USGBC. Pares USA / Merkrete is a member of the USGBC.

LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance. The LEED rating system gives an owner and architect the ability to measure the success of and promote their building towards environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.

LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

Buildings are awarded Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification depending on the number of credits they achieve.

Merkrete Contributions to Your LEED Project

Merkrete can contribute to your LEED project in two primary categories and up to four different credits. The two primary categories are Materials & Resources and Indoor Environmental Quality.

  • Materials & Resources
  • Recycled Content (Credits MR 4.1 & 4.2), Currently, the only product that would help with this credit is Sound Shield sound reduction mat. It is manufactured in a 42" x 48" mat from 100% post industrial recycled rubber.
  • Regional Manufacturing Credits (MR 5.1 & MR 5.2), this is described as extracted, processed and manufactured within 500 miles of the jobsite. Merkrete product line is manufactured in 7 different facilities. The product being manufactured in the different facilities will continue to change with growth in the brand, so please check back for updated information. For more specific information; Please click on the link for documents: LEED Contributions by Manufacturing Facility chart and Manufacturing Facilities with 500 mile radius map.
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Low Emitting Materials, Adhesives and Sealants (Credit IEQ 4.1), all of Merkrete mortars, grouts and underlayments meet the requirements of this credit for low VOC's and the South Coast Air Quality Management District rule 1168. For more specific information; please click on the link for document: Low VOC compliant materials chart.
  • Low Emitting Materials, Paints and Coatings (Credit IEQ 4.2) All of our membranes meet the requirements of this credit for low VOC's and the South Coast Air Quality Management District rule 1113. The VOC content on these membranes is available on the MSDS. For specific information; please click on the link for document: Low VOC compliant materials chart.
  • For Your Consideration Innovation and Design Credit.
  • Merkrete 7d10 Dust Less thin set should be submitted on a LEED project also as an Innovation in Design credit (ID 1.1,1.2,1.3,1.4). Since this product will improve the working conditions of all worker on the interior of the building, during construction. Innovation in Design credits provide the design and construction team the opportunity to be awarded points for exceptional performance above the LEED requirements. We suggest pursue this as an innovation strategy not addressed by an existing LEED credit.
  • Parex USA / Merkrete is committed to providing environmentally friendly products for the benefit of our installers, design professionals, owners, the public and the end users. We continue to be recognized as environmentally innovative in our industry with products like dry mastics and Dust Less mortars. This section of our website will continue to change and evolve as we launch new products and increase production in the different manufacturing facilities. So please check back often.
